Laughter. That’s right, laughter is a sure fire way to develop mindfulness and healthy living.
So simple, yet so lacking in our day to day negotiations with the world. When we laugh we disrupt the stress response in our body. That response creates insulin resistance and increases inflammation. Over time, this escalates our risk for developing a multiplicity of chronic diseases. In its place, laughter fills our body with feel-good hormones and neurotransmitters such as oxytocin and dopamine. This response activates our parasympathetic nervous system, which helps us relax, boosts our immune system, and decreases the body’s inflammatory response. In turn, this creates a sense of thriving, happiness, and wellbeing necessary for robust, vibrant health!
Discover at least three ways to laugh every day.
Here are five laughter promoters:
- Read the funny pages. Either online or for you old school folks like me, the newspaper.
- Listen to comedy podcasts. Just Google "Comedy Podcasts" and dozens show up that have been reviewed for “the best of.”
- Watch old sitcoms. This genre has a rich tradition going back to the inception of television and easy to find on Youtube.
- Comedy/Comedian acts. Also on Youtube.
- jokes.com. Need I say more?
